About
We ran HR for other companies before we built this.
Capstan is a product from PeopleCap, a specialist people advisory practice. We spent years on the buying side of the tools this industry sells, setting them up inside other people’s companies and living with what they did next. This page is what that taught us, and what we refuse to do with it.
- PeopleCap The practice, and the company that builds Capstan
-
A specialist people advisory firm in India, working where domain understanding, regulatory awareness and people strategy cannot be pulled apart from each other. It has set up and run hiring and HR inside other companies for years.
- Capstan The product, and everything else on this website
-
The HR system of record, global from the first line of schema, sold at a published price with no call and no implementation project. It stands on its own name: PeopleCap appears on this page and in the footer, and nowhere else on the site.
What is not on this page.
Three things you would expect here and will not find, said up front rather than discovered. Each one is a decision, and each one names what we are offering in its place.
-
No faces, and no team page
A named team page ships when the team is public, and not before. What is here in the meantime is the operating history and the decisions it produced, every one of them linked to the page where you can check it.
-
No customer names, and no logos
We will not put a client on a page to borrow their credibility, and the advisory practice’s engagements are not ours to publish. What we can show you is the work we published ourselves, under our own name.
-
No testimonials, and no review-site badges
Nobody here has written a quote and attributed it to a customer. Read the refusals further down instead, and hold us to them: every one of them is a thing you would be able to catch us breaking.
There is a longer list of what this company does not have yet, and it is published rather than buried: what we do not hold at the foot of the security page, and what we will not pretend in the manifesto. Neither of them is a confession. A company that will tell you what it has not built yet is the same company you can believe about what it has.
The practice this came out of.
PeopleCap advises banks, NBFCs, fintechs and financial services capability centres in India, in the places where domain understanding, regulatory awareness and people strategy cannot be separated from each other. Talent acquisition is the most engaged service line. Fractional HR, talent intelligence, compensation intelligence and hiring effectiveness run selectively, on engagements where the fit is right.
The practice is deliberately narrow. It is not a generalist HR consultancy and it does not try to be, which is the same instinct that produced a product publishing its own boundaries on every page. What that practice contributes to the software is depth in one specific area, hiring, and a long memory for the ways an HR system fails a year after anybody chose it.

What the job taught us, and where it landed.
Five things we watched happen inside somebody else’s company, and the decision each one produced. Not one of them is a claim invented for this page: every row restates something already published on the page it points at, so you can go and check the half we are asking you to believe.
-
What we watched
A price that moved with the call. Two companies the same size, quoted differently, and neither one in a position to check the other.
What it made us build
Every price Capstan charges is on one public page, every module included. A change is announced before it takes effect and dated in public, so the page accumulates a history you can read rather than a quote you have to request.
-
What we watched
Candidates, contractors and employees arriving as one spreadsheet with a status column. The status column is where the mistakes lived, and it is where they were hardest to see.
What it made us build
One directory carries employees and contractors, with no parallel sheet for the people who are not on the payroll, and hiring runs as a module of its own rather than bolted onto the roster. This is the part the practice actually knows, so it is the part we went deepest on.
-
What we watched
Somebody always asks what a person earned on a date two years ago. An auditor, an acquirer, a tribunal, or the person themselves. A sheet overwritten in place cannot answer that question at all.
What it made us build
Changes are effective-dated, so the record can be read as it stood rather than only as it ended, and every workspace gets an activity log it can filter and export on any plan without asking us for anything.
-
What we watched
Statutory numbers move, and they move differently in every country. A system with those numbers baked into it is quietly wrong somewhere, and nobody finds out until a filing.
What it made us build
Capstan holds no tax rate, slab or formula anywhere. Payroll is partner integration: Capstan compiles the inputs it already holds into a documented export, your partner computes and files, and the results land back on each record.
-
What we watched
The leaver who writes eighteen months later wanting a payslip, from an address that was switched off on their last day. At twenty exits a year that is a standing tax on whoever answers the email.
What it made us build
Alumni Access keeps a former employee’s own payslips, letters and tax documents self-serve on their personal email. It is a paid module billed flat per workspace rather than per person, because we would rather charge for it in the open than fold it into a tier and call it free.
Four things we will not do.
A services firm that builds software carries one standing conflict of interest, and these are the promises that keep it from paying off. The pricing promises are a separate argument and they live in the manifesto.
-
We will not turn the product into an engagement
A consultancy building software usually ships a consultancy’s software: heavy, endlessly configurable, and shaped by whoever paid last. Capstan is bought, not sold. No implementation fee, no configuration project, no call before you can see a number, and every module is switched on and cancelled on its own.
-
We will not use your workspace as a way back to the practice
Being a Capstan customer does not make you a prospect for PeopleCap. Nobody here holds standing access to your data: support access is a consent you grant from inside the app, scoped, time-boxed and revocable by you, and the register of who else touches your data is public and dated.
-
We will not become an employer of record
Capstan employs nobody on your behalf and moves no money. There is no payout rail here and no client funds sit here. When you need an entity or an EOR in a country, that is a partner you engage yourself, and the guides say so plainly rather than steering you back to us.
-
We will not let software judge your people in the dark
Nothing here scores, ranks or screens a person. What the software decides, an entitlement, an access decision, a line in a letter, comes from a rule you can read rather than a model’s guess, and your people’s data is never sent to an outside model or used to train one.
What we have published, and the rules it is written under.
Every guide and every post on this site is signed by this team and points back at this page. In the absence of a customer willing to be quoted, it is the evidence we can actually offer a stranger: go and read some, and decide for yourself whether the people who wrote it have done this job.
-
44
guides, nine of them covering hiring in a named country
-
19
posts, arguing a position rather than answering a task
-
8
free calculators and generators, built for the arithmetic this job keeps needing
-
Written from the work, not for a ranking
Each piece answers a question the practice has actually been asked. Nothing is commissioned to fill a keyword gap.
-
Statutory topics stop at concepts and structure
Where a current rate or threshold is needed, the guide tells you to confirm it with a qualified professional and the tools ask you to enter it, because those numbers change and vary by country.
-
Every product claim traces to a public register
The claims register is reviewed at each release, like code. A claim that is not in it does not ship, and an unconfirmed fact renders as an honest placeholder rather than an invented number.
-
Nothing is behind a form
No gated PDF, no email wall, no chat widget pretending to be a person, and no exit popup. Every tool on this site runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere.
-
When we are wrong, we fix the page and date it
Corrections are made on the page itself with the date shown, not quietly. If you find one, tell us.
The team is not public yet. The product is, and it starts free.
