Learning management system (LMS)
Capstan's Learning module builds courses from your own documents, links and text, assigns them to individuals or by org scope with due dates, adds an optional quiz with a pass threshold, and derives completion from what people actually finished rather than from a counter. It is one of the fourteen modules, included on every plan and free for up to twenty people.

Assign the training, then prove it was done
Courses carry their own sign-off requirements, and the compliance view shows assigned against completed against overdue without anyone keeping a spreadsheet beside it.

Training you can assign, chase and prove
A policy course is assigned across an org scope with a due date and a required acknowledgment, the due-soon reminder chases the stragglers, and the compliance report shows where everyone stands. The material is yours; what the module adds is the assignment, the chasing and the evidence around it.
- Courses from your own documents, links and written text, with an optional quiz and pass mark.
- Assignment by person or by org scope, with due dates and a reminder that chases the overdue.
- Completion derived from what people finished, with an optional acknowledgment at the end.
What it deliberately does not do
It is a way to run your own training, not a content library or a courseware authoring suite, and it states its edges up front rather than letting you find them after you have committed.
- Not a content marketplace: you bring your own material or link out to it.
- Not SCORM or xAPI, and it hosts and streams no video; courses link to your own hosting.
- No instructor-led scheduling or waitlists, and it chains no curricula beyond a single named prerequisite.
It builds on the core, not a separate stack
Course material lives in the core document store, the completion acknowledgment uses the core acknowledgment mechanic that policies and letters already use, chasing rides the core notification ladder, and completion reports register with the core report registry, so they are scoped by the viewer's own permissions. It needs no other module.
- Shares the core document store, acknowledgments, notifications and reporting.
- Contractors can be assigned courses while Contractor Management is enabled.
- The full module detail, with its published limits, is on the Learning module page.
Learning management system questions
What is a learning management system (LMS)?
A learning management system is the place that holds training, assigns it to the right people, chases the ones who have not finished, and records completion as evidence. Capstan’s Learning module builds courses from your own documents, links and written text, assigns them to individuals or by org scope with a due date, adds an optional quiz with a pass threshold, and derives completion from what people actually finished rather than from a counter.
Is the LMS included for free?
Yes. Learning is one of the fourteen Capstan modules and every module is included on every plan, the free one included, at no extra charge. A workspace runs it from the day it is created, on Free as much as on Growth. The module keeps an internal meter of active learners, but that meter is never charged: the only charge on a paid plan is the per-seat rate on employees past the first twenty.
Does it include course content?
No, and the page says so plainly. It is not a content marketplace: you bring your own material or link out to it, and no library is included. It is not SCORM or xAPI and it hosts no video, so courses link to your own hosting. It suits a company that already has the material, a policy to read, an induction, a compliance module, and needs assignment, chasing and provable completion around it.
Can I prove who completed a course?
Yes, and the proof travels with you. Completion is derived from what people finished, with an optional end-of-course acknowledgment recorded through the same mechanism Capstan uses for policies and letters. The completion record is the evidence, a letter can be generated through the existing letters machinery if you need paper, and a full workspace export includes the completion records whether or not the module is currently enabled, because evidence you cannot take with you is not evidence.
